Emily Peacock
Sun, Sept 05, 2021 - Sun, Dec 05, 2021

Opening Reception:
Sunday, October 12 05, 1-5pm

Jonathan Hopson is pleased to announce lightweight, our third solo exhibition for Houston artist Emily Peacock.

Emily Peacock is an artist who has made an indelible mark on the Houston and Texas contemporary arts scene and beyond. Known as a photographer, over the years her work has transformed into poignant conceptual thematic series that encapsulate comedy, tragedy, beauty, and defiance.
"I am a learned entertainer. Growing up in a small town, my access to art and comedy was the 90s finest sitcoms and movies. From a young age, I watched, studied, and mimicked captivating people like Will Smith, Jim Carrey, Eddie Murphy, Jerry Seinfeld, Martin Lawrence, plus my high school friend who could talk to anyone about anything at the age of sixteen. I learned I could use levity to talk about or move through difficult situations with empathy and compassion. I wanted and needed that then, and I think we all want and need that now. The work in Lightweight examines levity in visual art by making fun of itself and myself. Self-deprecation is the best form of humor." - Emily Peacock
I love the edges of a photograph.

Levity
lightness.

In my experience when there are no airplanes in the air it means there is a tragedy in our midst.
Context is everything.
Cumbersome I know.
Meaningful.
The alchemy of levity
Mental illness.

I’m a little crazy but I got a lot of love to give.
Context is everything.
Cumbersome I know.

- Emily Peacock
